Inspection and preparation - Pre-installation
survey.
To ensure a structurally sound flue, suitable for lining with
appropriate weather proofing and termination height and type.
Carry out flue smoke test to highlight any defects.
Ensure suitability for intended appliance.
Health and Safety requirements of site.
Cleaning the flue.
Loose material is removed using steel brushes, heavydeposits are
tackled with reaming tools or flails.

Lining the flue.
The material is applied by means of a "plug" inserted at the
base of the flue opening - the plug is winched up into the
flue to the point the lining will commence from (this is usually
at the top of the gather in the case of an open fire, or where
connecting flue pipes enters the chimney from a roomheater)
Note: large gather areas may be spray coated where applicable.
Mixed material is poured in slurry form onto the top of the
plug and continually "refreshed" as the plug is pulled through
the flue, applying the lining under pressure to the walls.
The plug can be pulled through more than once if required to
achieve a continuous lining within to the operators satisfaction. |

The Plug
Can be either a series of foam pads covered with a
kevlar jacket or a small (3ft) balloon attached to a self regulating
compressor (used for flues that change in diameter or have
limited access). Both methods apply the material to the flue
face under pressure. |

The finished Product.
The surface finish of the lining will normally appear slightly
granular and may be ridged in appearance due to application
by the kevlar blanket (the Eldfast may mirror folds in the
blanket). The lining will harden by a gradual process of air
curing (approximately 30 - 60 minutes after application, the
material will appear to harden). If there is a warm ambient
air temperature with a steady updraught through the flue (i.e.
stove doors should be left open), the material should have
sufficiently cured after two days. Should the ambient air temperature
be below
5°C, a 2kw electric fan heater could be positioned to assist
curing.
On completion, the lining will be checked and a certificate
issued along with a notice plate afixed near the base of the
flue or near other services to give details of the suitability
for use. |
